Dewan Sugar Limited(DSL),was originally incorporated as Jupiter Techno Project Limited in 1983 to provide industrial and financial consultancy services. Subsequently, It was acquired as V.S. Dewan and associates in 1994 and renamed Dewan Sugar Limited 31st January 1995.In1994,DSL underlook implementation of a new sugar plant for manufacture 0f 2500 TCD of white Crystalline cost of the project was Rs 59 Crore and was scheduled to commence commercial production from April 1996.The project suffered substantial time and and cost overruns due to change in scope of project(from 2500 TCD to3125 TCD in August 1998 ),delay in achieving financial closure and delay in allocation of command area due to objection raised by nearby sugar factory.The project was finally Completed at an estimated cost of Rs 116.48 crore.The company started commercial production in November 2000.
